Abstract The background basically talks about what my chemical is. It talks about what Malathion does and what it can do if used improperly. What it says is that Malathion helps us to kill off insects and other pests. It also helps us to treat any kinds of lice and scabies. It also talks about how Malathion is an organophosphate, which is known for being an insecticide. An insecticide is basically a chemical that kills insects. The effects section talks mostly about how much harm it can cause to humans. Malathion is mostly likely going to cause someone nausea, dizziness or confusion. Only when it is being unnecessarily used in a dangerous way can it cause something as severe as death. Its not only harmful to humans but to animals as well. Its most dangerous towards fish because once put into the river, it can kill a large amount of fish in a small amount of time. It is also most dangerous towards bees.
My position on this chemical is not to restrict or ban it but to just put more awareness out there about it. Without Malathion, many people in this world would horribly suffer from lice and scabies jus because Malathion wasn’t there. While using this chemical we must also remember to educate people about its dangers and make sure that everyone knows how to properly use it. Doing this will make Malathion a chemical we don’t really need to worry about. The only thing we have to do with it now is to find out how to make it not so deadly to the fish and animals in the world.
Background Malathion We use Malathion for agriculture, killing off pests, and public recreation areas. We also use it for things like killing head lice or killing mosquitoes. All of those uses put the chemical in a place where it can easily cause harm. An example could be like on a child’s head where they’re supposed to kill lice. If the child uses it the wrong way then the Malathion can cause the child either nausea, dizziness, or confusion. Malathion is one of those organophosphate type chemicals. In it are things like malaoxin, which is what it breaks down into. Like I said before the positive things about it is that it helps kill pests, head lice and body lice. It is very useful to have this chemical since there are in fact so many pests that we come into contact with in our lives. It also helps doctors treat things like scabies. It mostly used in the United States and Canada because they both still don’t find it all that much.
Malathion Synthesis/ Production Malathion is an organophosphate. An organophosphate is basically an insecticide, which means that it kills off insects. Malathion is produced by the reaction of alcohols and phosphoric acid. There are also some other organophosphates too. They are acephate, Azinphos-methyl, Bensulide, Cadusafos, Chlorethoxyphos, Chlorpyrifos, Chlorpyrifos methyl, Chlorthiophos, Coumaphos, Dialiflor, Diazinon, Dichlorvos, Dicrotophos, Dimethoate, Dioxathion, Disulfoton, Ethion, Ethoprop, Ethyl parathion, Fenamiphos, Fenitrothion, Fenthion, Fonofos, Isazophos methyl, Isofenphos, Methamidophos, Methyl parathion, Mevinphos, Monocrotophos, Naled, Oxydemeton methyl, Phorate, Phosalone, and others. Malathion Health Effects/Environmental
Malathion is sometimes very useful. We use it to kill off things like body lice, headlice, insects, animal parasites, and other pests. Since it is mostly used to kill insects and pests it's usually known as either a pesticide or an insecticide. But like most chemical sit has it's side effects. It's not as toxic to humans but it can still cause problems. When people use it at high doses it ends up over stimulating your nervous system which then causes nausea, dizziness, and confusion. When it's taken at severely high doses it can either paralyze you or even kill you. For some animals it's very toxic. It's most toxic to bees, fish, and reptiles.
MalathionEconomic/Political If Malathion were one day being banned, there would probably be a huge problem. If we were to ban this product, then there would be a lot more lice problems getting worse and worse. Not only that, but then there would be problems with pests flying everywhere which would cause a lot of annoyance which can sometimes lead to accidents. If it were banned we wouldn’t have things like “Raid”, “Pest-Off”, and “Pest Control”. The USA and Canada both export these products. Banning this chemical would mean that many people would have to manually kill insects in their home which may not be so difficult. As for the lice, its probably going to be a long time before another chemical can be found that can successfully kill lice. Until then people would probably have to try they’re hardest not to get either lice of scabies.
Malathion Summary Malathion is something that we basically don’t really need but is nice to have. Even though it can cause certain problems in the human body, it still helps us to fix some of the problems in the human body that include lice and scabies. Its basically harmless if used correctly and carefully. It’s only dangerous when being used too much or exposed out into the environment. So the best course of action to take with this kind of chemical is to not ban or restrict it but to maybe give people more specific direction on what and what not to do with the chemical. In doing this people will be able to use Malathion in a good way and basically live better.
